Well-being refers to that which is good for a person. What makes a person feel good and what helps them function optimally. It is also often referred to as wellness. Well-being is quite a comprehensive term. It refers to more than just health. Wellness incorporates all aspects of the being:
- Physical
- Emotional
- Mental
- Social
Therefore, although feelings of well-being are fundamental to the optimal health of an individual, it also involves the emotional, mental and social aspects of being.
Holistic wellness is key to optimal functioning. This kind of holistic wellbeing is only achieved by approaching the following eight pillars:
- Physical
- Nutritional
- Emotional
- Social
- Spiritual
- Intellectual
- Financial
- Environmental
