Well-being refers to that which is good for a person. What makes a person feel good and what helps them function optimally. It is also often referred to as wellness. Well-being is quite a comprehensive term. It refers to more than just health. Wellness incorporates all aspects of the being:

  • Physical
  • Emotional
  • Mental
  • Social

Therefore, although feelings of well-being are fundamental to the optimal health of an individual, it also involves the emotional, mental and social aspects of being.

Holistic wellness is key to optimal functioning. This kind of holistic wellbeing is only achieved by approaching the following eight pillars:

  • Physical
  • Nutritional
  • Emotional
  • Social
  • Spiritual
  • Intellectual
  • Financial
  • Environmental

We are whole beings and to address well-being, we also have to address all elements that make us who we are. The well-being of the individual, therefore, affects the general wellness of society directly.

Looking after the well-being of our children is the first step in creating a stronger and healthier society. We need to make sure that we do not put too much pressure on our children. Whether academically, socially or emotionally. Times have been tough, especially for the children. They’ve had to deal with feelings of isolation and fear. To create a balanced society we have to look at all the aspects of a person and always respect the individuality of each person.

The well-being of our world starts at home and with our children. Therefore teaching our children what the important things in life are should be our first priority.
