NOTE: Parents should feel encouraged because of the ISEB pre-tests’ age-standardization feature. This ensures that their child will not be disadvantaged by the timeframe in which they sit the test, be it early or late.
Below you will find some very helpful past papers to assist in your child’s preparation. Prep (Preparatory) schools are those that cater for students up to the age of 13. This is to ‘prepare’ learners for school entrance to the public (expensive and exclusive schools for 13-18-year-olds).

As each private school manages its own admission procedures, these vary greatly. Most private schools are however academically selective. These also administer some kind of assessment.For children, up to 7, a prep school would usually also ‘assess’ prospective students through an interview. Plus, a taster day at the school. Other schools also make use of 7+ formal assessments.

If your child is worried about taking their exam, we advise reassuring them they will be fine and just to do their best. Do not leave any anxiety issues, such as those described above, to get better on their own without any invention…since it can lead to a situation in which your child can’t focus at all on their practice.

Based on the syllabus for the Common Pre-test, it is suggested that students do not need any special preparation as the test is designed to identify the potential and attainment of candidates. A brief syllabus of the ISEB test can be downloaded from its official website.
If a student is interested in undertaking special preparation, parents can visit the online ISEB website and download the previous year’s question papers and several textbooks endorsed by ISEB.
