Gifted and Talented – Kids Academy
Curiosity and never-ending exploration are a natural part of childhood. These experiences, at very young ages, bring out a host of questions in children too. As kids enter preschool and proceed through elementary school, they engage in special courses that help them gain insight into the processes and laws of the natural world, first with courses about the World Around Us, and later in the Sciences. Parents can help encourage and facilitate their children’s process of learning about the world around them by reading science picture books, watching educational videos, performing home science experiments, and going for nature walks. There are an abundant number of online resources and apps that can help parents with their children’s learning experience. In particular, Kids Academy has fun apps for kids and a school app for kids geared towards preschool and elementary school programs.
Kids Academy – Science
Within the Science component of the Talented and Gifted app, there are Science courses for grades K-3 that are compliant with the Next Generation Science Standards. Each course consists of chapters and lessons filled with different types of activities, video lessons, interactive worksheets, and assessments.
Children can begin learning a new topic by viewing video lessons like this:
When children watch these lessons with parents, it allows both to pause the video and ask each other questions, drawing on the children’s curiosities.
Within the worksheets, children will learn all kinds of topics: from plants and animals to states of matter, physical forces and outer space. After reading a short passage, they will check boxes or circle items to apply their understanding of the topics.
After watching videos and interacting with the worksheets, children can complete quizzes on the topics. The image below is a quiz that allows kids to drag and drop items, matching them accordingly.
