CAT4 based Gifted Children Programs in the US
Gifted children programs or gifted education is a particular set of special theories, procedures, and practices used for those children’s educations that are gifted or talented.
In a gifted children program, talented students find peers with a similar intellectual approach. It has been found that gifted students develop social skills before a certain age compared to normal students who are not accelerated.
Office of civil rights which runs under the U.S. Department of Education estimates that more than six percent of public-school children have enrolled their name into the gifted programs.
However, the process of participation depends upon state and demographic subgroups. Gifted children programs vary widely across the entire country. Federal law of the U.S.A states that gifted children have unique requirements that are not traditionally provided in a normal classroom.
Regular schools of the country offer no particular mandates or provisions to serve the gifted children. Currently, gifted children’s educations are simply a local responsibility as well as are rely on local leaderships.
Resourcing CAT4 based Gifted Children Programs
To identify the gifted children, school teachers conduct CogAT assessment:
- Two of such exams are the Screening Assessment for Gifted Elementary and Middle School Students (SAGES) and the Test of Mathematical Abilities for Gifted Students (TOMAGS).
- Teachers then analyse the best ways to enrich gifted children’s lives. Moreover, they also help the students on their journey of learning.
- Gifted children possess verbal and mathematical precociousness along with superior creative thinking and problem-solving skills. These children require proper resources that can help to shine their abilities to the maximum level.
- However, in their learning journey, the children experience several challenges such as a competition to perfection, a very strict schedule that provides no free time, a greater intelligence level than other students resulting in improper interaction, and a lack of focus on things that do not intrigue them.
American examples of CAT4 based Gifted Children Programs
For example, Brightmont Academy, Davidson Academy, FlexSchool, Hampshire Country School, Lang School, and National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC).
More specifically, the American Association for Gifted Children (AAGC) conducted the following educational programs at Duke University:
- Project Bright Idea 1, Project Bright Idea 2, and Project Bright Idea 3.
- PBI 1 enhanced the abilities of a particular children group belong to North Carolina and place them into gifted education.
- Project Bright Idea 2 integrated processes for changing the classrooms into more exciting places for kindergarten, first, and second-grade children.
- Furthermore, the project Bright Idea 3 boosted the number of children that are identified as Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) from the discriminated populations.
European CAT4 based Gifted Children Programs
